It's a great hill, but the weather can be testing.
Keep us informed SS
Come on SS, this is a bit tame . 14 or 15 years ago a mate of mine was training for the Manx. He peaked by doing a double FTOP. When he arrived at CP11 on the first one, instead of trotting into Barley, he turned round and did the second FTOP in reverse. I went out to the Nick with some feed and drink and did the final 4 or so miles with him. At Buttock we were caught by a couple of Clayton lads who were "on one". Andy dropped all his kit, for me to carry, and went with them to just and so beat the 7 hour mark.
Hmmmm, Double FTOP, eh...?
(But not this time)

Stolly, stop taking it out on dear old Pendle. You know that it taught you a timely lesson,
"Don't wait until you are hypothermic before putting your spare kit on."
For a lesson of that calibre, dear old Pendle is your best chum .
Despite the fact that you littered her beautiful flanks with your expensive tat!
ahhhh MR1470 and I mentioned this recently. I thought a double FTOP would be excellent training, yes Stolly you hit the nail on the head in a round about kind of way....doing that amount of distance over the 1 (of sorts) hill when there are so many other options was why I suggested it in the 1st place as a double FTOP has got to be more mental preparation than anything else!
Best get a headtorch then!
Sunday 21st it is. Option B (from Downham). 0430 start.
So if anyone well versed in Pendle Cloughs route wants to come and at least do that bit in the dark, you'd be very welcome. FTOP checkpoints I know by heart but a few of the PC ones are a bit trickier. :0
Agree, I like the idea of completing this with the added challenge of knowing that at any point I can decide to bin it and be only a couple of miles dash from the car. Overcoming this temptation and the potential monotony all add to the challenge.
That and the fact it means I can do some decent mileage and climbs without wasting a good couple of hours driving (for me, at least. again)
May look at a double FTOP in March.
