    Frisbee inventor dies

    Aged 90. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/8512198.stm

    Here's the strange bit:

In 1957 Mr Morrison sold the rights to the California firm Wham-O, which discovered that youngsters were calling the toy a "Frisbie" after the name of a well-known pie. The company changed the spelling to avoid trademark infringement and the Frisbee was born.
Why would children name a flying rotating disc after a pie?

I've been a bit skeptical of this news story....surely people have been throwing disc shaped objects for years??

    Aha. I see it now.

This pie-frisbee combo should be reintroduced: a nice tasty treat for the grown-ups and a toy for the kids. Like Kinder eggs are with mean parents.

Do you think the polo people would be interested in making a giant version for an aerobee flyer combo? What about boomerang-shaped foods? There must be a market.

Ah yes, that's right - Aerobee was the name of a pie.

The best bit about aerobies was that they flew so far they were almost guaranteed to get stuck in a tree. This was rubbish if you were bought one as a child (which I wasn't). But great if you could climb trees and wanted one(which I could, and did). I think I had "my" one for about 3 weeks before it was claimed by a harder-to-climb tree. There is a chain of tree climbing ability up which aerobies were passed. Although this isn't widely known, the UK's tree-climbing champion owns 18,743 aerobies.

Reading this and someone mentioning Kinder Eggs. How about a new Race where Kinder Eggs are laid about the Kinder Plateau and the first one to find a certain amount and back to the finish wins. Yes i know there is something similar for children elsewhere i just like the egg and plateau names coming together.
They called me mad and i called them mad and damn them they outvoted me !!!.
