I think it's pretty awful because I find the path dreadful to run on. The old grassy path used to be ok but erosion control measures have spoiled that. Having said that, it's a big up and down on a hill that many people have heard of and also climbed so a decent time wins good bragging rights .

In defence of Skiddaw, it is a great up and down race, people do suffer from blisters on the fast descent (where else can you run 4.5 miles downhill?), but if you're not prone to blisters its great! The setting of Fitz Park for the start and finish and post race refreshments must make it worth a visit.
    A circular route mostly downhill

I was looking at Skiddaw on the way back from AW. 4 1/2 miles downhill sounds fantastic. Might give it a go this year.
Fitness can't be stored. It must be earned over and over, indefinitely.

Never been in the race but often run on Skiddaw, as people have said its a very fast descent you could get away with wearing road running shoes if its dry.
I'm one of them that gets blisters on it
