    Cheeers Guys,

Opted for good old Yeomans.... Very light, waterproof and (supposedly) breathable trousers and jacket for £30! Small enough to fit in the bumbag and meet the entry requirements. All I need to do is turn up and do the race/run. This poses one further question....not why...but....has anyone got any easy race tips for a novice???
    Cheers

Watch out for signs of injury, my ITBS crept up on me like a fart in a darkened room.

    Re: Advice re kit requirements

It's tricky. Obviously for racing you want something lightweight and cheap that will pass a kit inspection and 90% of the time you'll never take it out. The big but is what happens if you take a serious fall in bad weather and help is going to take an hour or two to find you. Then you absolutely need something of better quality, ie heavier and more expensive. At the very least it's going to be embarrassing to rely on other racers' kit. It's a personal choice of risk versus gain once you get past any inspection. Obviously, good quality yet light gear is going to be expensive.
Don't forget full body cover means a hood as well.

If you're coming to the sport from road running add anything from 20% to 70% to what you consider a good pace. You'll be competing with the ground and the elements as well as yourself and the other runners. In some conditions 5mph is first class.

Turned up (with full kit) did the race and finished it to boot!
Thanks for all of the advice. I have to ask though....How on Gods earth can people get round a course like Wolfs Pit in such amazing times? Is there some magic but easy formula I can follow

    either have
    a) a natural ability to run fast over all terrain or
    b) Train really hard or
    c) a&b

    Thought as much!
It looks, from my newbie perspective, almost like superhuman capability but I will press on with it.

    Congratulations on getting round.

The elite may well have some magic, but it's certainly not easy.
Big lungs and heart certainly help, but the rest is hard work.
I'm guessing you're the runner in the 73 min slot.

Don't know your running background, but the classic training recipe is long, slow distance on the hills for stamina, fast hillwork (both up and down), speedwork on the flat and rest. Hard day, easy day, hard week, easy week.
    Avoiding injury and over-training.

And crucially deprives them of the means of looking after themselves, either during your incident, or later in the same race. Potentially leads to them failing a post race kit check as well. Lack of kit also prevents you helping someone else. In other words, it's a mutual support system, which is as strong as the weakest link.

Well done goldsim1963; sounds as though you enjoyed it, which is the whole point.

Indeed, as in 4.15 round Edale would be a very respectable time.
