    South Wales Traverse

Not sure that I should broadcast it as I'm not the fittest horse in the stable, but ..... I was thinking of having a crack at this possibly in June. I live on the edges of the Black Mountains and Beacons so am pretty familiar with quite a bit of it (well Eastern areas anyway!) I've just plotted the coordinates on Tracklogs and read the info here:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Wales_Traverse

I guess the route choice between the coordinates is entirely up to what you think is best? There seems to be quite a few choices in places, but I guess thats part of the 'excitment'?

Anything blatently obvious that I'm missing?

I've had a search for threads on here as I know a few of you have done this, but can't find anything easily. (so apologies if there there already oodles of info on it somewhere!)

Didn't RobW and YDT do this last year? Try searching for South Wales Traverse.

There is an account of YDT's 2009 run on the gofar website.

Hi I have not seen many details of this yet - I have found a list of the check points but could you point me in the direction of a site so I could find out further details - dates / registration form etc and I reckon I could squeeze that in for a laugh.

    Re: South Wales Traverse

In gofar it is quoted as: The Brecon Beacons Traverse.
There are some route choices but most of it is quite obvious.
From Cefn yr Ystrad to Pen Cerrig-calch I took the unusual route through Crickhowell. I wouldn't recommend it, it is longer and has lots of tarmac in it. The usual route is through Llangynidr but you need to prearrange passage through the private Glanusk Park estate to cross the river.
The forest crossing between Pen Twyn Mawr and Chwarel y Fan needs careful recceing or it could cost you lots of time. Any clarifications, please ask.

I'd like to do this one too, but racing the bike this season, so won't be having a go until September/October time... I live at a stones throw of the finish and have been wondering if I could actually finish it at home

Hey Misty, would be happy to join you. I know lots of this well having completed Trans Fan many times. I agree with Yiannis, I think the route through Llangynidr is best. Toffer and I reccied Pen Twyn Mawr to Chwarel Y Fan a couple of years back and I think I could find it again OK. If you are up for a partner let me know as I have wanted to have a crack at this for years. It looks like my regular running partner will out of action for some time yet...Poor Toff!
