    Grasmere Guides.

Is this still the Grasmere Guides Race Route. I know it might be tricky from the print. If so does anyone fancy doing a modern recreation of this print in the photo medium if this is still used and still looks the same.I think the text reads Silver Howe. http://www.prints-4-all.com/cgi-bin/...smere%2DRacing

Xrunner will be along in a mo to elaborate I expect, but the route changed from Silver Howe to Butter Crags, I think when the field changed.

You can take a picture of me falling on my arse at most races I enter though. Even (especially) the dads race at school.

I think we should reinstate the expectation that summit marshals wear bowler hats.

No. The current race route goes up Butter Crag not Silver Howe.

    Re: Grasmere Guides.

The route was changed from Silver Howe to Buttermere in 1904 when the venue for the show was changed to Broadgate Meadow.

Best book about the Guides Race is "See the Conquering Hero Comes" by Michael Miller and Denis Bland, published in 1973 in a limited edition of 900 copies.

A more comprehensive book is Ray Lomas's "Grasmere Sports. The First 150 Years" published by MTB Publications in 2002. The book is still in print.

A brief history of the Grasmere Sports and some details of the Conchie brothers by Bill Smith.
