5 x 5mins @ 15% gradient on the treadmill. 5 minute rest periods which were a combination of walking and jogging.

Another tough session, and my final hill session before next friday's race.

    9.5 miles.

There will be no evening run as i'm off to watch the athletics at the Loughborough Grand Prix. Should be some real good quality racing.... the men's 1500m in particular looking very spicy.

6 miles today steady away, felt good, had my biggest week since my AF ablation just over 12 months ago, reckon I’m at about 30 miles for the week, it’s been a struggle to get going again but things are looking up, may even get back on the fells at this rate 😁

    Nice one Stanley....

11 miles this morning, and an easy 3 this evening. 79 miles for the week.

Friday evening is the Snowdon Uphill.... aside from my jaunt to the Pyrenees, this one is my next priority for the year, so hoping for a good showing.

Current pb is 53:45.... i'm feeling fit and confident.... i'm not so sure that i'm 4 minutes fitter than last time and able to sneak under 50mins (i was in good nick last time i did this race), but if i get lucky with the weather, then who knows.

Only dilemma is what shoes to wear.... if it remains completely dry then i'll probably go for road shoes.

In other news a rush of blood to the head saw me enter the 3000mtrs in the track league in a few weekends time.

Are you sure? There's a lot of grip needed in few places

Uphill only race, i think if its completely dry then the benefits (might) outweigh the negatives. Its very runnable even where uneven underfoot.

If it was up-and-down, with my descending, i'd probably think again.

    Club night on the grass.

    2 x 30secs
    2 x 1min
    1 x 3min
    2 x 1min
    2 x 30secs

    All off 2 minute recoverys.

Looking for a nice confidence-boosting session going in to friday.... was going well... on the 3 minute rep i caught up half the perimeter of a cricket boundary on a group who should really be close to my pace.

However half way through the next minute rep, i was passed by one of the faster guys, and my legs just seemed to go.... whether it was the heat, or the fact i've been mangled at the physio this afternoon and was a bit stiff and sore, my energy just sapped away, and was unable to find another gear for what was only a couple more minutes of effort.

Everyone appeared to be suffering though, so perhaps it wasn't just me.

9 miles, on top of 4 miles AM.

    All easy now until friday.

A long one today on the Carneddau, 21 miles and 5800ft, in weather that was pretty miserable. Zero visibility from about 250mtrs upwards, and on/off rain. Thankfully temperatures were reasonable and there wasn't much wind.

The first 5 or 6 miles were on tarmac... from Llanrwst, crossed the Conwy Valley to Trefiw, then the horrendously steep minor road heading west into the middle of nowhere. This eventually bought me around the dam of Llyn Cowlyd.

Along the path along the lake right to the other end. Up on to Pen Y Lithrig Wrach (thankfully finding a path up the south side of the mountain which eased the passage considerably). Down the ridge to Pen Yr Helgi Du and across the even narrower ridge to Carnedd Llewellyn (i'm sure the views on this section would have been stunning in better weather).

Now on the Welsh 3000ers route, following north over Foel Grach, Carnedd Uchaf and Foel Fras.... continued north on the quad track which took me almost all the way to Llanfairfechan. This section from Carnedd Llewellyn was fantastic... mainly downhill, long but easy miles.

Some minor issues finding a right-of-way down into Llanfairfechan, where i concluded the day with a pint of coke in the pub.

Didn't see a soul until Pen Lithrig Y Wrach, then a handful on each of the summits thereafter. The Foel Fras fell race was on today, but i passed Foel Fras at nearly 2pm and saw no sign of the race.

Nice run Travs. Yes the views would have been fantastic.

I was going to say, until I read your last paragraph, I bet you didn't see ..........

Any ponies? The last time I did the Foel Fras Race a herd of them galloped across my path to front and rear which sharpened up my senses!

Foel Fras race starts at midday and as the summit is only six 6 miles in, even the slower runners would have probably passed through prior to your arrival.

A steady 4 miles along the back road in the Conwy Valley, from Llanrwst to Betwys-Y-Coed this morning. Thats all i can manage today, after the weekend exertions.

78 miles for the week. At week 26 of the year i am averaging almost exactly 68 miles per week, mainly due to my injury niggles at the start of the year which have bought the average down.... my last 6 weeks or so have been 78, 79, 78, 70.5, 79, 78

No particular focus this week, will be looking to recover, although i do plan to train with the club on tuesday, hill rep thursday, and continuous hill session at the weekend.

Next focus is the Swirral Grind in three weeks.... although do have a track 3000mtr in a fortnight, although i'll "train through" that to some extent.
