Weekly total 52 miles 10,750ft.... an encouraging week... promising track session midweek, and a decent race out yesterday. And my feared strain of the hip-flexor seems to have disappeared.

A bit less than the average for the past couple of months, but given that racing (and recovery) is now beginning to get thrown back into the mix, i'm fairly satisfied.

Next week another track session and hopefully a fairly consistent week of training. Next race hopefully in 13 days at Llangollen.

I'd settle for that for the month

A very laboured 4 miles today, 37 minutes around Witton in humidity that reminded me of my trips to Ho Chi Minh.

Yeah it was incredibly humid this morning... I did a fairly strenuous uphill hour on the treadmill (5.5 miles, 2300ft) and i was absolutely soaked at the end.

Out of the back door, up to the trig and home via the lead mines. 5.54 miles, a mere 629 feet 49.45 mins. Sweating buckets - head under the hose on return - phew....

Ran a loop through Witton and then back around the back of Witton to Pleasington to collect the daughter's car. She'd had an evening at the Butler's Arms last night.
Nice and early so whilst sweltering at times, occasionally there was a nice cooling breeze.

Out on the track this morning, thankfully a little cooler, but still uncomfortably humid for such exertions...

    11 x 400mtr reps, 90 seconds rest periods.

Managed the reps between 79-81secs. Was a little heavy-legged still from the weekend, but pleased to see some good consistency to my times.

unusual number 11. Did you run out of steam?

When i'm training alone i don't usually set a specific number... i go as long as i can keep them consistent...

Got to 6 and thought i'd manage 8.... got to 9 and said that 10 would be my last... then pushed for one more!

Amazing what a few seconds a lap can make... last 400mtr session i ran around 84-85secs per lap, and managed 18.

What was the purpose of the session compared to the previous 400s?
Trying to plod up hills every day slightly faster than the day before

    Hi Tom...

My intention had been to work on speed/efficiency, so i had been hoping to get down to around 76secs per lap, which would be very fast by my standards. But whether it was tiredness from the previous weekend, it was pretty apparent i wasn't running that fast yesterday, so i just did what i could.

When i'm training alone like that, i don't usually set a number of reps on 400's... i just go for quality and keep knocking them out until i can no longer hold the pace. Obviously this takes some honesty with yourself as it's all too easy to feel a bit of fatigue and stop. But as i mentioned above, i was feeling it after 6, but pushed on...!

The previous 400's (84-85secs) were working on endurance so although they are a bit slower, it's still above my 5km pace, and i cut the rest periods down to 60secs.

Whilst we are not training as a club, i've tended to do the sessions which work for me. I'm always a fan of 400's, nice and simple... but i've recently found the longer reps quite useful... 1km, 1250m, 1 mile, even 2 miles.... (which is unfortunate for me as they hurt like hell...!)

Nice steady one this morning... 8 miles, 900ft.

Possibly going to have a reasonable run at a half-marathon on sunday... not race pace but still an honest run. Maybe try and push down towards 1hr30...
