Have you set a date for your final Welsh 2'000er yet?

Intense is a good word to describe track racing (and even track training to a lesser extent).

Just the whole atmosphere round it... its a lot more "official" than we're used to on the fells... numbers checked before getting on the start line, then lining up in order... then of course when the gun goes there's no taking it easy for the first mile like on the fells when you're heading out to the first big climb of the day... its straight into race pace...

Then there's spectators and coaches/clubmates who can see the lot, there's no place too hide, and a timekeeper shouting out your time every lap... and you can see your progress (or lack of it) as you come out of each bend and see the guy in front pulling away, or coming back to you...

Its very different to the fells... but for a confirmed race-aholic like myself, its absolutely fantastic stuff...!

12 miles this morning to bring the final weekly total to 60.5 miles.

A slight drop on recent weeks, and was certainly not a "quality" week... but yesterday's 3000m was encouraging.

Now starting to get into the real business of the season, with my opener in the English Champs next weekend, and the short race at the Welsh 1000 the following weekend. Can't wait!

8 reps round the field near home. All but one between 2:05 and 2:09; the sixth was 2:11. The route is roughly oblong; today the outward long side, which is sheltered, was with the wind, while the more exposed return was into the wind.

This was my last run before a 9-day holiday with my wife, visiting three European cities. I will be taking some running kit, but I doubt whether it will get much use. If you hear about un fou anglais doing reps up the steps below Sacre-Coeur, you will know that I have finally cracked. https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@48.88...7i13312!8i6656

Well i've made the jump from my current training group, into another group at Cov Godiva...

Its going to be tough work... i'll be jumping in with a group where i expect i'll be the only one over the age of 30 (i'm 40 now), and will be one of the slowest, if not the slowest, in the group...

However it should give me access to a lot more track sessions, and hopefully give me incentive to up my game and latch onto the back of some of these speedsters.

    First session tomorrow night....

Did my first session with my new training group last night...

    5 x 1 minute
    1 x 3 minutes
    5 x 1 minute
    5 x 60mtrs

all off 2mins easy jog rest periods.

    11 miles in total.

Surprisingly i wasn't the slowest, and even pulled a few of the youngsters back during the second half of the session due to better endurance and pacing... but overall a much faster group, comprising mainly of students, ex-students, and reasonably quick middle-distance track runners.
