I joined our local gym just under 2 years ago having given myself psoas bursitis doing multiple recces for the Great Lakes race, and then doing the race itself. I wanted access to stationary bikes and treadmills. Once recovered, as I used to enjoy going and using the various bits of equipment, I signed up for 12 months.

Come lockdown, despite being closed, they continued to take £5 a month from me, which I did not resent, but when the 12 months was up I decided to leave. Even though I emailed them to let them know, and filled out their hard to find cancellation form, I received multiple threatening emails until they eventually desisted. I won't be rejoining.

My gym here in Cov have been great... a small independent gym... has a reputation as a bit of a "meathead" and "heavy weights" gym... but in reality it just has a higher proportion of people who are more dedicated to their particular sport... be that Boxing, Rugby, competitive weightlifting, and myself the lone runner.

I pay £26 a month and i've kept paying all the way through the previous year, despite their offers to cancel/suspend. And i intend to keep the membership up after i move in order to have access on my returns to the Midlands.

It will be a little more difficult to find such a great regular gym in Penrith... i've made a few enquiries and found at least one that looks very promising... but the simple fact is in a large city like Cov there are gyms of all shapes and sizes in their dozens... there just isn't the same level of choice and competition away from the cities.

Although i do intend to cut my gym time down from sometimes 5 or 6 sessions per week, to 2 or 3, due to having the fells close at hand...

Club night and an interesting session.

Unfortunately I'm still in pieces from Sundays race, not to mention the return of gym work yesterday, so ran this session very steadily.

Just strode out the 200metres, and kept the miles at 6:20

But a nice run out and another 8 miles in the bag.

Thank you WP.... a look at the official results and i was only 12/100ths of a second behind the winner, so was even closer than i thought at the time.

Sciatica getting me today. Brought me to a walk briefly just after 3 miles and feels like a hot needle sticking in me as I type now.
Still managed 4.10 miles in 39:49 on a loop on the canal and through Witton.

We had club night last night. A combination of a few of us having raced last weekend, a few more this weekend, meant we just opted for an easy 5 miles, which to be honest suited me fine.

Sessions and mileage all over the place this week, and for the next couple.

A bit of a messy week. Only 48 miles. A combination of several things... the effects of both racing last sunday and then jumping back into strength work in the gym has left me feeling quite fatigued. And then a lot of time pressure with work being busy, and my move.

I expect it'll be the same for next fortnight until i'm permanently moved. Hoping to keep sharp enough for first fell race looming in 2 and a half weeks at Loughrigg.

First proper run today for nearly 4 weeks. My son was swimming in Buxton at lunchtime so I set off from Cold Springs Farm up the Midshires Way for a mile before heading up onto the ridge and took a right to follow the edge of Combs Moss via Flint Clough to the TP at Blackstone Edge.

I then retraced my steps for 600yds before a right which took me past the plushest grouse butts I have ever seen and on to the northwest edge of Combs Moss where there were lovely views over Comb Reservoir and Chapel-En-Le-Frith. I continued to follow the edge around back to where I joined it before dropping back down to the Midshires Way and Cold Springs Farm.

A lovely run somewhere new with most of the route being a single track moorland trod. A bit tougher ground than I really should have been on but the shoulder seems OK.

A total of 7 and a half miles and 1,120 feet in a steady 1hr 16 min. Only 3 people seen which was fantastic as Buxton was chock a block with folk.
