Heavy week (for me) - unspectacular finish somewhere-near-the-back in an 18k trail race on Sunday, Monday rest, then 45k and almost 2000m in three days, yesterday bonking quite badly 8k from the car and late for work. My foot is throbbing on the top, off to the physio next week to see how I can stop it happening. It's my theory that my calves/hams are so tight my feet have to flex more on the steep climbs.

Signed up for a 42k/2800m race on June 18th, no idea how that will go. I'm generally wiped out after half that distance.

Mrs WP out for a rare trot today, so tagged along to keep her company. She got a bit papped by 5 miles, so walked most of last 2.
    7 miles, 850ft, 90 minutes.

Managed a trot round Keighley Parkrun in spite of yesterday’s general anaesthetic - 30 mins and something

    Good stuff DT...

Race tomorrow so tried to keep it relatively steady this morning.... 40 mins.... 5 miles 650ft.

All I can hope for tomorrow is a pb... managed 9th last year but I think the combination of hot weather and a few of the top-guns missing aided that... I’d be surprised if I get top ten tomorrow without a significant pb.

Minor pb yesterday (3 mins over a 2.5hr race). Admittedly a nav error probably cost me between 3 and 5 mins. Surprisingly matched last years position (9th).

I think the fact that I had to push so hard on the climbs to make the places back up, didn't necessarily help my time as I then felt slow over the extensive runnable sections... had I not made an early nav error then i'd perhaps have been able to pace it better. But I felt the best tactic to gain places yesterday was to try and break a couple of those around me on the climbs.

But another solid week, 47 miles, 12500ft.

It's now all about the build-up to Tenerife Bluetrail, less than 4 weeks away. Although the small matter of the Moelwyn champs race, and the Welsh 1000m between now and then. At least i'll be well-raced when I hit Tenerife!

Looks amazing, that. Which one are you doing Travs?

Went out yesterday and reccied the first half of the 43k I've got in June. Gulp. Got to the top of the first 1000m climb, and the second looked impossibly far away. It didn't look any nearer after I'd done 20k and was baked. Will try and reccie the second half next weekend (there is about 1500m climbing in the 2nd, compared to 1300m yesterday).
The 25k took me almost 4h, the winner crossed the line about 20mins later last year, though I did get lost quite a lot. Not sure I can up the pace much and still get round the second half, so at 8h including stops I'm looking at more or less dead last!
10k lunchtime recovery today then a trip to the physio to find out what's what with this sore foot.

You'll be surprised that you can speed up during 'race conditions'.

42km and 2800m is roughly equivalent to a big Lakeland Classic.

I'm doing the ultra, approx. 63 miles (101km) and I think around 22000ft (6700mtrs) ascent.

Funnily enough, the distance and ascent (although more than I've done previously) doesn't really phase me on its own.... with it being marked and all on paths etc I can to an extent forget about navigation and just concentrate on ticking the miles off...

However the heat (and quite possibly cold in the early hours (11-30pm start)), altitude, and the fact that almost the entire climb is focused in the first 36 miles (meaning almost the entire descent is focused in the final 27 miles)………… all look like they could contribute to quite a suffer-fest.

    I feel a little inadequate

an hour for me, 6.4 miles and around 650ft, cross country route to Darwen via Tockholes to collect the car so the wife could walk home via Tockholes.
