    Holiday help

We are thinking of visting London for our summer holidays.
The plan i s to stay on the outskirts of London and travel in.
Has anyone out there got some suggestions for a base ?
Somewhere I can do a bit of decent running.
Hertfordshire has been sugested to me ?
Bearing in mind I will be travelling from the North east I would prefer to stay this side of London.
All replies will be very much appreciated.
    regards

I used to live in Beaconsfield and run for Chiltern Harriers. Good running in the Chilterns around Tring, Wendover woods, up on to the Ridgway. To the NW of London just outside the M25.

Wendover would be an ideal spot. Loverly running, train station to town. Nice village feel. That, or Princes Risborough. Might even join you for an evening run if you go to Wendover...remind me of old times.

    Re: Holiday help

If going into London on train, look at train times. Stay in vicinity of Stevenage, its a fast link in, stay nearer Hertford (Hertingfordbury has a really nice reasonably priced hotel) and it is more pleasant but takes about 1hr.

If coming from NE, Epping forest area is nice, lots of trail running, but near Essex (not a fan of the place), Herts is pretty, more scenic and potential of good train travel in. Hertford itself is lovely as a base for further exploration.
Dont know further round Bucks etc (too pricey when I lived down there!!!)

If travelling that far, only another hour and you're in Kent, North Kent is a decent base, excellent rail travel (I lived in Orpington, train took 23mins!!), but also venture into Weald of Kent which s really lovely, Tunbridge Wells or further to the Kent coast at Whitstable or Sussex (Brighton). It depends really what your down for.

If travelling in London, look for using travelcards as they are massive discounts and a good laugh to shop with getting the bus from 1 shop to another!! Unsure on railcards (sorry don't know your age) but might be worth loking at them as they can do a great discount.

London is great (I know I'm in a minority on the forum here), hope you enjoy it, any more queries feel free to PM me. (I lived Kent and North Kent approx 20yrs and Hertford approx 7yrs so have okay knowledge)
