After disppointingly not managing to get to do Llanbedr-Blaenafon I am even more determined to do a long race in south wales
So my choice is Brecon Beacons or Black Mountains. For those that have done both which would you recommend?
Cheers

Black Mountains far superior IMHO. Lots of Beacons race is a boring trudge. But you should do both and make up your own mind
Also, don't miss Cribyn or Mynydd Troed. Both superb runs. Waun Fach good too.

Personally, I much prefer Black Mountains, but I am biased, as it was my second ever fell race, so it made a serious impression... Have done it a few times now and it is my favourite, together with Langdale...
As Wheeze is saying, don't discount some of the medium races: Mynydd Troed this Sunday and Waun Fach a few weeks after. Waun Fach was my first ever fell race and again a favourite!

Both are very good routes, I would agree that Black Mountains is probably the better of the two but I don't agree that much of the Brecon Beacons is a "a boring trudge", I find the varied nature of the terrrain a bit of an extra challenge and interesting in it's own right. Definately do both if you can, they normally attract only relatively small fields and deserve much more support but don't forget that this year BMs is a British Champs race so entries may fill up in advance (entries opening July I believe).
