    Question Calf twinge

Hi all, anybody had this problem with there calf?
When my heel hits the deck,I get a sharp pain up the lower outside area of my left calf. This is painful enough to have stopped me running. Two weeks rest has not helped (back on the mountain bike!) seeing my physio next week, but wondering if anyone else has had this, or knows what it is?

    Cheers all

I know that feeling all too well, I ignored it for 2 weeks and it turned out to be a fibular stress fracture Does it hurt at any other times or just when you land? Mine was also sore when I travelled over the planted foot into dorsiflexion, this is when the fib is at max stress.
I only run so I can eat cake Oh...and drink cider

Hi all, physio says its a "very tight calf muscle", not broken or nothing interesting. Massage, stretches, accupuncha etc an a weeks rest.

    Sorry its not more exciting!

If experience is to go by calf injuries need more than 2 weeks - they hang around for a long time if not rested properly.

So you wouldn't recommend racing on Saturday three weeks into a calf pull thats still jipping me?

I would wait until it feels fine in training - I've just lost a week's training due to a 'minor' calf tear, am bike-commuting again but not going to try running until tomorrow and then only for 20 mins or so on a relatively flat route.

No, and if it's still jipping you, I'd reckon you haven't rested it enough. The advice I got last year was that It would feel okay after about 2 weeks total rest, but wouldn't be right. I ran after 2 weeks when it felt fine and lasted about 10 minutes. Ended up taking about 7 weeks because I kept rushing to get back.

Calf injuries are total b******s. They just don't seem to do 'quick repairs'.

Don't push it, or you'll be out for yonks.
Don't roll with a pig in poo. You get covered in poo and the pig likes it.
