Physios are fallible you know! I got told several times that I didn't have a metatarsal stress frature but it took 8 weeks before I could run again. Pain, localisation and recovery were typical for a stress fracture so I'm pretty certain that that is what it was.

I think sometimes physios tell you what you want to hear.

I pulled my calf last week, felt like the muscle had snapped! Felt fine on the bike though!

Running fool, we often tell people what they don't want to know! or indeed they hear what they want to hear and not particularly what they are told

    Re: Calf twinge

    Agggghhhhhh!!!!

I did my first 10K (and first race in 10 years, due to various injuries...) last sunday and did as well as I'd hoped. I felt a slight twinge afterwards, which subsided before the quad stiffness. I went for a short run this AM and I am now suffering with a sharp pain in the muscle on the inside of my calf about 2/3 down towards the ankle, below the large 'lump' of muscle.

I was supposed to be doing another 10K tomorrow, but I guess I'll be resting for a few weeks instead....

    Aggghhhhh!!!!!!!!

    Question Re: Calf twinge

I've been doing a lot of stretching and manipulation of the injured calf muscle. I had been mountain biking and cycling to work with no issues. There was no longer any pain at all.

I then decided to go for a gentle run yesterday. I was pleasantly surprised to feel no pain and be able to run smoothly again.
Then, after about 15 minutes of canal and woodland path, without warning...twinge from the left calf... "oh ****, not again". I walked home. It's now sore and tight.

I guess I over-did it, but how was I to know how much?

How long are these things best rested?

What else can I do to aid recovery?

How on Earth do I know when it's safe to resume running????

    Right.

    Depends (see below)
    Upon what?

    That's what I've been doing.

When it dosen't hurt to run
It didn't hurt to run, until it did start hurting.... Hmmm...

So, do I require a visit to a psychic Tarot card reader?
