Took a while due to the restrictive filesize requirements for a KMZ but ZIP limits are a bit more generous, hence zipped kmz file. If somone knows who to ask - why???

Fascinating route Ian - like Geocaching on steroids
    Gone peakbagging

Ian, how long has that sign been there? I don't recall seeing it before. Mind you, it must be well over 10 years since I was at what I thought was the source of the Derwent.

    Looks a great route.

beaten to it but TBH I didn't know how long. If you put your back to the sign and walk down the right edge of the sandy clough you should find the tea plant approx 50-75m?

    Re: Dark Peak Derwent Devil

I remember my gran leading my siblings and I on a very hot, dusty and ultimately unsuccessful search for the source of the river Wharfe in the dales one summer day in about 1977 ... definitely no sign to mark the spot (or at least no sign to mark the spot we finally settled upon, more out of desparation than in any genuine belief that we'd really found the actual source).

So, rather off topic perhaps, how many other river sources can others point to as being marked by signs? The Derwent source is the only one I'm aware of.

Somehow I think Daz's comment may have been a little tongue in cheek!!

I read about the tea plant on the DPFR website a while ago - not been up there since, though.

Fresh from his triumph of completing the Marathon des Sables. Steve Martin of Dark Peak went round the Derwent Devil in 8.40, he was understandably dissapointed by the lack of camels....

    Wll done Steve.

I also heard that a Penistone runner was planning on giving it ago yesterday. not heard any thing yet......
