Think suppleness and bending is more important.
Do 15 mins gentle chi-qong type exercise almost daily.
I'm sure someone must have pointed it out in this thread but there isn't an option for "Never" or "Nearly never".
Seconded, I'm a nearly never stretcher.
I'm a never - just don't feel the need now that running's my main thing; I used to do martial arts so obviously stretched loads then though. I can still get both hands flat on the floor stood with straight legs so my flexibility isn't too bad anyway.
Theres loads of stuff on the net for and against stretching... And loads of conflicting studies. I've read that holding a stretch for more than 2 seconds initiates the "resistant stretch muscle reflex" which is basically the muscle fighting against the stretch, and is not good.
Gordon Pirie's laws of running... 11 static stretching causes injuries. http://www.scribd.com/doc/18228/Gord...edition-240307 (page 8 for the laws).
i strech most days.. most of the time it's to get the beer out of the fridge!
Wot, no "never" category? Come on!
I think stretching regularly is good for lengthening things, i've got more movement in my RHS ITB than my left because of my constant injury related stretching on that side. I'm working on lengthening both hamstrings too to try and reduce my injury potential by increasing the range of movement.
