Unfortunately, there is bound to be a protest on the grounds of being over age, so any points awarded will be forfeited. Plus there is the question of whether the FRA will ban her from future events for a flagrant breach of the rules. A sad end to a brilliant career on the fells.
Going downhill fast - until I fell over
Ah well, I won't be competing in any of the FRA races this year so I guess I shouldn't really have any opinion. Just some constructive critiscism which ends up on everyone ganging up against it and taken the opposite side. Roll on BOFRA for some proper racing.
Up the mighty Wharfedale 'arriers!
Your opinion is valid and noted I'm sure. You've highlighted a potential anomaly, which needs to be monitored.
It is important that by whatever subjective measure is deemed appropriate in a particular year, the 'right' team is generally agreed to have won.
Tell your Gran she's famous.
Going downhill fast - until I fell over
And no disrespect to BOFRA but it's like comparing the English Premier League with the Scottish Premier League.
Why does it always have to be about competition?
BOFRA is a much friendlier, less serious and welcoming atmosphere, where almost everyone knows everyone. It isn't full of people wearing 'coach' jackets from track/cross country clubs. The courses are also far superior and the races take you to some of the finest places in the country.
Up the mighty Wharfedale 'arriers!
Sorry, but I thought that was the point we were discussing, the assertion that the depth of competition in the older girls races specifically was poor. Look through the BOFRA results and I think you'll find that the depth and quality in the U17W category is lower than that at the fra U16/U18 races.
I wouldn't argue with your point that BOFRA is friendly, but I would also argue that the FRA Champs is also friendly. I think fell running generally is friendly and the qualities of BOFRA that you describe are to be found throughout fell running all over the country.
Perhaps that's why some of us that wear coach jackets from track/cross country clubs are encouraging our athetes to get involved? In fact I wouldn't describe us as a Track/Cross Country Club, we are a multi-discipline club with a long history on fells.
As far as the BOFRA courses being far superior, I think that's down to opinion. There may be some great venues, of that I have no doubt, but great venues are not the exclusive domain of BOFRA.
AW is about as good as it gets.
My decision at BBH to encourage my athletes to take part in the FRA Champs is purely down to the number of races. 6 races through a summer is an appropriate number. It can be managed by my athletes whlst they can also manage their other disciplines which they also enjoy, which of course at this time of year is track and field.
If we were to try and compete in the BOFRA Champs, then we would have to take almost a fell only approach to the Spring / Summer and I think that the variety we have works well for us.
I hope that you're not resentful of us from T&F coming along, I would hate to think that if we were to come to a BOFRA race we would be frowned upon. I'm sure that is not the case.

I do not think that anyn one course can be any better than another in fellrunning as different clubs, counties, countries even have a different perception of fell running- steep cumbrian ascents, runnable peak district terrain etc. Anni Waltz isnt my cuppa- far too much road and I much prefer Coiners but it doesnt automatically make it better because there is a concensus that some people prefer some courses to others it merely makes it suited to certain types,
My big issue is clubs like Blackburn (sorry WP), Leigh and others getting their athletes to run in champs race only I believe it encourages athletes only to enter to win and gives a false illusion of the strength of junior fellrunning- I mean lets think back to the Ambleside races, there were complaints the course was too hard for some athletes at under 16 and 18 level yet these runners are the fell talent of the future and it paints a grim picture as in a coupke of years if they do live upto their potential on the fell they may have to tackle races like Coniston or Buttermere as part of a championship.
I dont fell angry or upset by track runners doing fell- quite the opposite they have incredible talent and im very envious but I just wish they showed the dedication to match their potential instead of just turning upto 6 races a year to win- We need to try and get more athletes doing races that arent championships or else the future talent will be lost
