    Re: Cake Race

What a brilliant and very runnable race, although I wasnt running very fast trudging up the last incline.
A good fast finish down the track though.
Best thing is all the fantastic cakes to taste after the race, lovely atmosphere and the weather was glorious.
Hope to be back next for this tasty venture.
Thanks to all the marshalls (holding gates etc) and organisers.

    .
You like the finish??? That track went on for aaaages. Almost as bad as the finish to Goyt's Moss. Stones and x-talons just don't mix.

Agreed about the cakes, though. They were lovely.

Thanks also to the organisers for arranging a window of dry, sunny weather. Would have been a very different race in the afternoon.

When you climb as slow as I do, one always likes a down hill finish eh.
X-talons would certainly be better than the footwear on your profile photo... but not as stylish.

    Re: Cake Race

Many thanks to all those who turned up at the Cake Race on Saturday. I was really impressed with the start list of 90, change of date, Bank Holiday, clash with Crowden and the prospect of bad weather had me thinking we'ed be lucky to get 60. The weather, as it happened was fantastic, though those complaining about it being too hot have obviously never done this race in recent years where the savage head-wind has had many a competitor crying in his cake ;-) The cake competition is one of the social highlights of our calendar at SRC, with people going to great lenghts to keep their ideas secret from other would be bakers. the comp is not just there for SRC members and we take all-comers and encourage other Clubs to join us in making this the premier Cake Race (I notice not even a mention in the piece in the last Fellrunner)

Special word of thanks for the marshals and helpers, we are truly blessed at SRC with people willing to give up their own races to allow YOU to run. It's a bugger of a job for the organiser if he get's little help, so next time your club is putting on a race, offer your services, even if it's only helping with Car-Parking or tidying up at the end, it makes such a difference and makes the organiser feel like he would like to put the race on again...would you pick it up if your organiser decided to pack it in???

We are looking to revert back to the original race route of 10 miles next year (keeping same weekend) a path has re-opened recently adding around 1.5m to the current distance.

Once again well done and thanks to all for a great race.

Yep it'll be the 10miler Daz, roll on Saturday!

Been out recce'ing a couple times in the last few days, got blown off the route at the first attempt on Sunday but was more successful second time round on Monday, now can't wait to give it a proper crack!

Love this race, got a bit of something for everyone in it, including cake! :-)
