    Ogden Water

I took my daughter to rugga training in Ovenden yesterday evening and with the pooch in tow then went for a walk around Ogden Water. Although it was fairly jam packed with other dog walkers and joggers it looked quite a good spot for a run; presumably next time if I take my running togs I can get up onto the moor and the wind farm if I head up through the woods on the west side of the reservoir? I wouldn't be looking for a long run but maybe a 45 minuter and just trotting around the lake would be a bit monotonous.

Oh and while there those bleeding annoying signs saying in big red print "No Swimming Cold Water Can Kill" really, really peed me off. Okay the water company and/or Calderdale Council don't want people to swim there. Fair do's. But the cold water can kill statement is a ridiculous thing to say and irritates the hell out of the open water, wild swimmer in me

Just like the notion that all speeding of any sort is dangerous, it's complete boswellox.

The course is about 7 miles, all public rights of way. About one third is on tarmac (quiet lanes and hard-core) though which may not suit your tastes

Blimey it looks miles, miles better than running around Ovenden rugby club, which is what i have been doing.

    Stolly.

I love it up there, but just to put your mind at rest, two kids died a few years ago when they tried to swim across Ogden Water. The signs were therefore put up due to the recklessness of youth rather than the annoyance of the older and wiser!

Success is the ability to go from one failure to another with no loss of enthusiasm.
