    Mow Cop Killer Mile

Anybody else do this race tonight? I'm suprised I haven't heard of it before this year, it's got quite a prestigious history. It's a measured uphill road mile with 550 feet of climb. Pike timed his run to perfection to take the win in 7:04 (he was gutted not to break 7!). I trotted up in 7:45 for 7th but I'm just pleased to be racing properly again 2 weeks back into my training for the fell season.

I did it a couple of times 18 od years ago when I was at Manchester Uni. It was a big event then multiple races in different cattagories, getting on for 1000 people all told. If you were organised you could do it somthing like 5 times.... Once was enough for me... There was serious cash on offer especialy for a record, a 4 figure sum if I remember correctly.

They had a lot of entries on the day which kept them busy, but organisation generally was very good. I think they would benefit from a professional race results service which could be dishing out printed results within minutes of each race, and remove what for them is the major headache on the night, but that's the only area they could improve. Results were on display up on a screen, and I expect will be published on their web site later this week.

Steve Vernon, Simon Bailey and Bashir Hussain all stayed at home this year so the trophy is back in its rightful place.

AG I picked up your certificate.

Yes I am, but after doing the 3 Peaks fell race on Sunday I'm not setting my expectations too high. But for the next 5 days I will enjoy ownership of both the Murder and Killer mile trophies.

    Well done.

Double with Three Peaks in between would be impressive!

I am well and truly knackered after the 3 Peaks and would probably be risking injury by racing the Murder Mile in 48 hours.

Registration is in the Pub at the junction of Church St and Bridge St, Horwich (I can't remember the name). Post Code BL6 7BT. Map Link.

Race starts 7:30pm, allow 5 minutes to get to the start. Distance 1 mile, climb approx 450 feet. It's all road. Course record 6:01 Paul Freary.

    Fancy dress recommended.

I'm sure you could run it quicker than that!
