And whilst I'm having a rant why not increase roadside testing but reduce the penalty for minor infringements (which I think is true on the continent). This would take some of the gamboling aspect out it where there is little chance of getting caught but if you are and slightly over some arbitrary (or at least difficult to judge for an individual) limit and you lose your licence for 12 months.

I doubt it, most people roughly process one unit of alcohol per hour.

You can't have zero, due to the way the body processes what is put inside it!! There is the real possibility that with a zero limit, someone who doesn't drink could be over the limit as they may have a small ethanol content in their blood.

More spot checks, harsher penalties for those big time over the limit, fairer penalties for others is what most road users would happily agree with, wouldn't they???

    # 0.0 mg per ml– Estonia, Malta, Romania, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Hungary
    # 0.2 mg per ml– Norway, Poland, Sweden
    # 0.4 mg per ml- Lithuania
    # 0.5 mg per ml- Belgium, Bulgaria, Denmark, Germany (Germany is 0.3 if you’re in an accident), Finland, France, Greece, Italy, Serbia/Montenegro, Croatia, Latvia, Macedonia, Netherlands, Austria, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, Turkey, Cyprus (North)
    # 0.8 mg per ml– UK, Ireland, Luxembourg, Malta, Switzerland
    # 0.9 mg per mlCyprus (South

No one is 100% sober when 0.8 mg per ml so I find it hard to see anyone having a problem with reducing the limit to 0.5 - surely it must be a good move. This doesn't affect me personally as I always stick to my own zero limit.

    Eirik,
There are drink drive limits and there is policing them. I lived in Cyprus for 3 years and if you think the majority in the North or the South of the island pays any attention to the limits, I'd advise you not to hire a car there (and don't even think of asking me about the donkeys in the road).

    Or the pink elephants.
Tao begets one. One begets two. Two begets all things.
