Delayed Leg Ache after Races

Why is it that just after a race the legs are a little bit achy, but the full pain doesn't appear until about 24 hours later?

I find the 48 hour point the worst - perhaps that is down to age!

Try looking up D.O.M.S. (delayed onset of muscle soreness), should hopefully answer your question
