    Daft race idea

I remember a while back I was talking about the idea of having a fell race that's a relay, where one leg is uphill and one leg is downhill. That way, those people who love descending or love climbing can just do their favourite bit. Also, really good people would be encouraged to run it individually, so us mortals would be able to compare our times against their splits. Each leg would be about 2 miles.

You must have all, at some time, thought "if I combined by climbing ability with X's descending ability, we'd be a great fellrunner".

Well... If I organised such a race (somewhere around the Western Peak District area), would anyone turn up to do it, or do people think it's a stupid idea? I'm not saying I'm going to - just that I might start to think about it more seriously if I thought people might like it.

    All (polite) comments welcome.

I would be interested in the up and should be able to find someone to do the down.

We had an in-club race up and down Skiddaw last summer. Teams of 2, one runs up to the summit from the memorial, and hands over to the teammate who fires back down.

Sounds like an excellent plan to me.... Something like Edale as the start/finish and Crowden head as the handover would be good.... route choice and descending ability would be tested, maybe with a checkpoint on top of grindsbrook knoll on the way down for added interest?

Or maybe Glossop start/finish with Mill Hill as the turnaround? I'd just need to find someone to do the uphill

Count me in. I'm sure I could find someone to do the up hill bit.
I have always wanted to run against faster people on a downhill. I perceive that I am fairly quick, but to be tested against the elite would be a real buzz.

Definitely count me in. If I could ascend as well as I can descend, well, a man can dream...

Also, I might want to swap notes with you at some point (and would be happy to assist in organising your race if you like), as I've been looking into semi-formalising a race in the porter Valley/Ringinglow area.

The Trail Runners Association (gasp) has a section on race organisation on their website which is fairly useful and free to download.

I'd be well up for this!

Sounds like everyone wants to descend so far though.

We could have a downhill race if anything!
