What's the least amount of training anyone has done a BG on?

I did mine off 25 MPW with approximately 5-6000ft of ascent in those miles. The reason for the low mileage was to try and avoid aggravating an injury. I wouldn't recommend this low amount of training though!

Without me you'd be one place nearer the back
don't let people freak you out with the enormous amount of training they did, I did my Bg off about 35 mpw and between 8000 and 10000 foot of ascent from January to doing my round in june, like bob says injury prevention is the key. Also don't forget stuff like cycling to work , doing the school run on foot, chasing kids round the park etc all add to your general level of fitness compared to sitting in an office all day!
Linda, one thing to have in mind is 10,000ft sounds a lot if your not used to doing it but it's not a vast amount. 5-6ml, 1,000ft club run, 5 x 500ft hill-reps on Stoodley Pike, one leg of the BG and a 2,000ft run-out and it's done for a week

I'm with merry. Tanky's, Hobble, Fellsman, Ennerdale would be a good base to start training for next summer

After supporting Emma, I really believe I can do it with the right training, it's knowing how much training to put in. I don't want to make it hard on myself by skimping but on the other hand I don't want to go all out and risk injury. Thanks for your advice guys and gals, I'll let you know when I need you!!
I think you might be looking at the training in the wrong way. When I started to train for mine other runners told me the training days would be some of the best of my running life but I wasn't really sure because all I was really thinking about was the amount of running and climbing I needed to be doing each and every week. But they were right, I had glorious long days on the fells in winter, through the spring and into summer - always getting fitter, always enjoying the company and camaraderie in fantastic surroundings. Sure, there is a "winter slog" during the short days and long dark nights but the benefits are enormous - enjoy your long training days and you can't help getting fit enough.
The whole thing is much more than just the day - enjoy it all (-:
