People drop out and they keep your money?!
I'm presuming that they may only have a, say, 500-runner limit from the relevant authorities. Opening entries this early means there'll be enough drop-outs that it does dip under the required limit, and they get the money anyway!

I entered in 2014, but someone foolishly organised a wedding on the same weekend and only gave me 5 months notice, the cheek!

I don't mind the early entries, I'd enter and pay for the next 8 years today if they would let me as I want to get my 21 in and I'm not getting any younger. The disappointing thing to me is the proportion of people who enter and then don't run, having denied other people places. I accept that some will be for genuine reasons but the difference between the entry list and the list of starters is quite significant - last year there were less than 500 out of a full entry of 600. Perhaps this is because of the early entry date but I'd like to think that its important enough that if you are successful in getting an entry only something really serious justifies not turning up to race.

I was up for missing the wedding but was told off (by another fell runner, no less) for having the idea.
If they ever get divorced I'll bring it up then.

I've not (yet) missed out on my entry being accepted. I do note that they always ask us not to date the cheque - which has always led me to assume that they will not be cashing cheques until a date much nearer the event. It's a pretty well managed reserve list.
Maybe in this cynical world they're missing a trick?

Out of curiosity when do they usually let you know if you're in? Also if successful when do they usually cash the cheques?

Provisinal list should be up this week,my cheque was cashed on 13th March last year. I failed to get an entry for Carnethy 5 this year(I've ran 16 of last 18 years) fingers crossed for a Ben entry, with 21 fast approaching.
