Scramble the rock face through the glare of morning sun — to run
Its a really nice race with some contrasting sections! Along a canal tow path, up a steep ling busting incline then another flat, fast section round to the base of black rocks. Another steep climb up to the trig point and then a glorious downhill secton back to the canal to finish with a pint in the club house!
Enjoy!!
It's worth remembering the flat run along the tow-path at the start, since you will re-trace on the return and it seems to go on forever after the descent of the High Peak Trail. Probably less than a mile, but seems more on tired legs. Oh and watch out for over-head branches in the woods - I've seen some nasty head gashes as a result.
However beautiful the strategy, you should occasionally look at the results
It clashes with bamford. not sure which one to do. Anybody have any view on the best race, route atmosphere etc.
what time does it start ( black rocks )
Did Black Rocks last year and really enjoyed it except the last flat mile along the canal. Good atmosphere with only 100 or so runners
If I were you living in Nottingham, I'd only venture as far as Black Rocks. Bamford is straight up Winn Hill & straight back down again - flat speed counts for nothing in this race - you've got to be a good climber & descender. Forgetting the canal towpath at the start & finish, Black Rocks ascents & decents are not as steep - the decent through the woods off Black Rocks is one of my favourites. That's where I'll be heading despite the drive being probably twice as far as Bamford.
Its better to have fought and lost, than not have fought at all.
long drive for me too (from Runcorn after work :w00t: ) but expecting it to be worth it
I've done the White Peak Half Mara, so have run down the incline/along the canal before - quite looking forward to going up it
will be giving the fluo green Fell Ponies vest an airing

Did black rocks a few years ago in torrential rain and it was still brilliant so looking forward to tonight, first fell race this year....
