Good turn out considering the clash with Bamford - I could have sworn I saw a Dark Peak vest at the front looking relieved he wasn't following 007 for a change...

Still my tired legs were happy enough to get round. The trail bits suck but like Darth says - the descent off the top is cracking.

I agree with gibbon... it was a great run and not too crowded. Shame that despite, what I thought, was some good training I was several minutes slower than last year. Hey Ho!

At least I wasn't alone in being slower - I was 90 seconds down on last year!?

And judging by other finishers all of that time was lost on the descent and trail at the end.

Thanks for that Mountain bag! It has cheered me up somewhat, yet again I found the final canal dash an absolute physical and mental killer. I need to sort my Psychology out somehow

Glad to be of service, though I'll try not to do it too often.

From looking at the results it looks as if you had a good run this evening AK.

Hopefully the trains were running good too!
Visibility good except in Hill Fog

My calf muscles would dispute the description of my run as "good", but the rest of me certainly felt good (and the trains were also on time). The problem was that, as the RO put it, the race is 5km of flat running and 5km of fell running. The hard-packed surfaces of the canal towpath and the High Peak Trail were not kind to the legs, but I really enjoyed the footpaths through the woods. In particular, it was a pleasant surprise to be running on gritstone, which provides much nicer surfaces than limestone (I have tended to think of the Derwent Valley as being the boundary between gritstone to the east and limestone to the west, but it's more complicated than that). I even passed two runners going downhill on one of these rocky paths.

I was well within "Winner's time + 50%", but not in the top half of the results. In fact, with a strong M60 field led by Dicky Wilkinson, I didn't even make it into the top half of the M60's.

My apologies to the lady from Buxton AC who fell over in front of me, and was then nearly sent sprawling again as I came past rather clumsily.
