 well done JtB, very good post. You will be better without the booze

My other half's dad died at the age of 52 - far too young - because of years of alcohol abuse. His alcoholism was a cruel disease, to him and to those who loved him. If only he'd said good riddance few years earlier before making the transition from heavy drinker to alcoholic.

2 days easy, 3 tonight. the real test is this weekend. i am buggered if i can sleep but that was why i started in the first place. for a while it worked then the bad dreams started and i felt for a number of years now that it was beginning to lead me astray

i find it hard to cope with the difficult issues surrounding my home life but alcohol isn't my real problem and i hope when the real problems steady or come to an end i may be able to return to responsible drinking, like having a glass of wine when i go out for a meal or a few halves if i go out at the weekend, but i never want to bring it over my threshold again.

I've been t-total since new years eve 2004 JTB.
I know exactly what your going through mate.
I actually took up exercise to tire me out and help me sleep, which is how I eventually found my running legs.
I used to do weird things subconsiously... like eating Malteasers and storing them in the fridge where my cans used to be.
Some of us like to keep busy JTB. I always enjoy doing and learning new things about life and never regret abstaining from alcohol. Sure I dont I dont get invited to many parties these day but I also don't suffer from bad dreams, headaches and all the other ailments attached to the poison we call 'British Culture'.
If I was the Prime Minister I would make alcohol really inexpensive so that everyone can afford to get wasted anytime they like. That way, no one would be in a fit state of mind long enough to complain.
    Oh... thats already happened?

    Seriously JTB
Its gets easier and you will get stronger each day mate.
    why do we do?
