    Bruised Balls!

I have managed to bruise the ball of my left foot. I know this is not dramatic or anything but with Borrowdale looming on Saturday, I would really appreciate any tips to mitigate the pain and keep my PB hopes alive. i have inserted some comfort insoles into my X-Talons and these seeme dto work ok at Cracken Edge last night, but it was still painful and I slowed up a bit. Help!!

I would be one of those people who swear by ibuprofen gel. Slather a load on before you run. Might as well take a couple of pills before you run while you're at it... should all help lessen the pain. Temporarily at least!

Is there a visible bruise or just pain? If there is no visible bruise it could be something other than bruising that is a bit more long term. I have had this on and off for three months and should get round to doing something about it.

Lots of small bones in that area. The capsules in the metatarsals can also get damaged by impact. With RICE and cushioning you might be OK, you'll certainly know by the end of Borrowdale. Good luck with it, it's my first go since '87.

Beware the Sesamaoids! - I have hardly been able to run for four months now because of chronic pain in that region. Physio hasn't helped and I'm off to see an orthopaedic surgeon about it. It stinks, and it won't go away...

I've never actually run in X-Talons, just tried a pair on - but I wouldn't fancy running a very rocky race in them, they don't feel like they offer much protection either in the soles or the uppers

Try Movelat. I have used it on numerous occasions after running and found it very effective.
