    Re: Lakes 2500s Attempt

I am starting to worry about myself.

A few years ago, I would have read this thread and thought you were all, at best, eccentric.

Now I just get all inspired. John, if you ever take a few weekends off from running yourself or helping others, write all this down properly - it would make a superb book (with great photos too!)

    All the best,

    LE

especially the sight of ben warming up for the last leg by sprinting up and down the car park at kirkstone - has he seen my zimmerframe type action with the poles I wondered?

Still giggling now - that was class!!

John huddled on his chair, hugging a mug of coffee, pretty exhausted, gathering strength for that final leg & in the background Ben doing sprint warm ups as though he was on for a short championship race .

Many more good memories - the herd of stags, the clouds flowing over those silhouetted ridges as dawn broke - hell, even those sky-larks twittering on at us

Well done John (and supporters)! After a fairly quiet period we seem to be having another 'golden age' of long stuff in the Lakes!

This 2500s round has been crying out for an attempt ever since Steve Parr did his round way back in the 80s.

Once again John, well done. Brilliant!

thanks trundler. was very glad to finish as the pre-existing injury which I'd been fighting off pretty much the whole way became almost unbearable. Was pleased just to finish given the injury but should have done it well within 48 hours if I'd been properly fit. Still struggling to walk more than a couple of miles the full tale should appear in the next fellrunner.

just reflecting on what an achievement that was for Mal to complete within 38 hours. Bear in mind that its 111 miles as opposed to 65 for a BG, much trickier terrain for a large part and 45300 feet as opposed to 26,700. ie its 1.7 BGs, but slower ground and you might want to take a longer break in the middle for a nap. I reckon the trickier ground and the need for some sort of longer break means at least 2 hours. That makes this 21 hour BG speed the whole way round which is pretty impressive.

It's miles easier if you start in Grasmere though! Just like doiong a clockwise BG....only took Billy Bland 13 and a bit hours so obviously easier than an A/C round.
