I can well believe that amount of ascent judging by the way my legs felt on Monday morning Interesting that I'd seen various stats on web for the route: 21-25ml and 3750-5000ft-ish

Merry, I use a Suunto T6 - really a proper HRM but with a GPS thingy as well - and I had 22.41 miles, 4,772 ft ascent and 4,576 ft descent, so pretty close really
