ITB?! Rest, stretching and physio my friend. No, physio stretching and rest.

Loads of threads on here regarding ITB. Or you could Google it.

I concur with m'learned friend. Sounds like ITB (the bane of my life). Immediate rest, physio appt. ASAP (to confirm or otherwise), and google some appropriate stretches in the meantime. YouTube has loads of demonstrations.

Most effective stretch I find is lying on your side with an object that rolls at your outer hip (could be foam roller, tennis ball; I'm currently using an empty beer bottle - Dent Aviator, if you're interested - and got it with me in my hotel ).

You then roll your body up the roller until it's level with the top of your knee, and roll back down again. Do it slowly, with as much bodyweight as you can stand supported by the roller.

e.g. you might use the redundant leg to support some of the weight, you could keep both legs together, supporting your weight with just your arm and point of contact with roller.

It hurts but very effective at stretching your ITB.

If it is ITB, this shouldn't be considered a panacea: there may be more work to do with your stability or core strengthening; but it should begin to relieve the pain caused by inflamation in the knee due to the overtight ITB and make it useable again.

(A good ITB indicator is if it flares up going down hills/stairs.)

    Re: Outer side knee problem.

Thanks for replying, although i think i made the post in the wrong section, the injuries might be the right one. The knee problem that i have occurs mostly when i run on roads and a bit faster than the "normal". In trail running i almost have no problems.
