I haven't run since the beginning of March due to plantar fasciitis. I've tried various treatments (stretching, ultrasound, night splint and plain old rest) without noticing any real improvement.
I went to see a new physio yesterday who asked me "How quickly do you want this better?", a question that you just know is loaded with potential pain.
I asked him if he was thinking of a steroid injection (something I'm not keen on given reports of tendon weakness and rupture) but he said "No, I'm thinking of peppering the dragon".
This turned out to involve repeatedly sticking an accupuncture needle into the most exquisitely tender spot he could find (and I do mean exquisitely tender) through the tendon and down to the bone.
I was right about the pain.
Far too soon to know whether it's done any good but if you're the kind of person who has difficulty in accepting that any treatment that doesn't hurt, can't possibly be any good, then this treatment is just the thing for you.
What's more, I get to go back next week for another session!
