Not a lot to add to this other than see a decent physio and try and use it again as soon as possible.

If you aren't careful the ligaments will either heal up too long (and your ankle will be unstable and liable to "go" again) or they will attach themselves to the wrong thing and turn into a big unflexible mess (adhesions they're called and getting rid of them hurts like hell!). Flexibility of the foot in general is another thing to watch out for (the bones will stiffen up as the foot protects itself and running with a stiff foot will be likely to cause injury elsewhere (the opposite knee in my case!)

All the best with the recovery - it can take a bit of time to heal fully but if you're careful and do what the physio tells you should be able to be fairly active fairly soon.

Thanks Track Fairy. I'm already noticing that my gait has been affected, feels that when I place my foot it points a wee bit inwards more. Hoping it's just psycholgical and that it'll soon correct itself!

[quote=NotOnUrHelly;34720]I went over on my ankle two weeks ago,

I did my first 3 mile road run on wednesday this week ( 10 days after trauma, I love the way some people call the incident a trauma).

NOUN, in the trade we tend to call this the Mechaism of Injury, whatever we call em, they still f**king hurt

    Re: Torn ligaments!

Took me 8 weeks (after chiropactor said it would be 2-3 weeks) to get back running after twisting an ankle coming down hill at a fair pelt. I was thinking of other things and arghhh! Though i felt the after affects for a while longer as i'd tried to protect the injury so other bits of the injuried an uninjuried feet/ankles ached.

Strengthening exercises helped, particularly standing on one leg, though i'm struggling to master the art with eyes closed.

You'll get there but don't push it too soon.

    Re: Torn ligaments!

Just thought I'd update the few (if any! ) who are interested....

I'ts now 4 weeks since I last ran. Undergoing first week of physio treatment - another two to follow. Ligaments repaired and OK, but, the physio tells me, I had gone over "a bit too far" on my foot and have stressed the joints between the talus, navicular and calcaneum bones (see pic attached).

Result is a most impressive lack of lateral (i.e. sideways) flexibility in my right foot! Charlie Chaplin impressions are definitely out for the moment....
