    Re: 1000m Peaks...

Sorry to pour scorn, but I'm unconvinced as to alterations to the existing route. I know it was changed once in the past after a fatality (one of the Army guys, not a fellrunner) and some access issues, but there's an immense tradition here. Adding an extra peak (even if correct in terms of the surveyed height) would really significantly change the nature of the race. I think the fact it doesn't go to the top of any of the Glyders but crosses the ridge as a means of getting from A to B is a fairly unique element of the route. Besides the description in my Welsh 3000 Foot Peaks Book will be out of date if its changed.

On the other hand Yiannis makes a good point about the Dwr Cymru road - I spent a good part of Saturday looking down at it: must be grim to run down.

Difficult decision for the orginaisers, I think...

That book is quite out of date anyway, the Paddy Buckley description is way off, I presume because of the technicality of access issues, but climbing guides describe routes in the quarry, so I think that should have described the right route. It also describes the North ridge of Crib Goch descent, doesn't it?

Not sure re the change. I did it when it first changed and wasn't sure there was a huge amount in it time wise.

I read on MST and that some think addition of GF would make it too big a race, I don't agree there, I still think it would be an easier race than Wasdale, it'd be a toughy but it would only add 15-20 minutes or so. Maybe even less if you were allowed to direct line it..may go out and set a new record next week... :-)

That's how it should be, down Yr Ole Wen and up Twll Du
This, according to Memory Map, will shorten the route by just over 2.5 miles and will increase the climb by 700ft, hence reduce the overall time by about 25 minutes.
