    Question Lakeland 100 O/S Maps

    Lads/Lasses,

I am going to be running the Lakeland 100 in July next year, they provide a map book but i would feel better if i can get hold of the correct O/S maps and plot the route on to them. Preferably 1:25k. Does anyone know the maps required to cover the route? the checkpoints are as below :

    Seathwaite
    Eskdale
    Wasdale Head
    Buttermere
    Braithwaite
    Blencathra
    Dockray
    Dalemain
    Howtown
    Mardale
    Kentmere
    Ambleside
    Chapel Stile
    Tilberthwaite

    Cheers,

    Paul

I'd have thought the Harvey's 1:40000 would be fine - that's what I carried for my BG. It covers the whole of the Lakes on 1 map (and it's waterproof).

    i agree with GeoffB.

You can buy this years left over maps from the Lakeland 100 site (1:40000 harveys) and the routes already on it. Always found them better to navigate with than the OS ones. The colours and contours are more vivid

The one Geoff refers to is the BMC one and is also excellent. The L100 ones are the same map just with no cover and without the waxy paper

Sounds like your thinking of doing the 50 Steve.
I would recommend it. If not only to see what the 100ers look like after a night on the go as you overtake them As Alan says the first 4 miles are flagged and the whole route is only 48m so when you get back to Dalemain it feels like a 44 mile race from there.

The maps are 2 sided with the whole 100 on. At Dalemain it says '50 start'

I've entered the 100 next year. May be too much for me but at least I know what to expect in the 2nd half now, lots of rocky paths.
