    Mid Winter BGR Attempt

    Hi all,

As the title says .... I am attempting a clockwise mid winter BGR starting at 9pm on friday 17th December.

I'm looking for as much support as possible for all legs. I have a number of great people already commited to running legs and a really good road crew but am well aware that the weather at that time of year can result in colds, injuries etc and things come up. I'd like to get a really robust team together to give me the best possible chance of success.

We will have a base in Keswick for support crew to keep warm / stay at / recover at.

Please drop me a pm if you can help at all.

    Thanks,

    Jim

PM Swiss Toni, or search for the thread he created on this. He had a crack around the same date as you last year.

Here's a link to Mark's (Swiss Toni) blog. There were a few of us on here who helped Mark out last year so it's possible that you'll get a decent response.

Thanks Rodders - I've been in touch with Swiss Toni - great guy who has given me lots of top advice - his blog posts about it are a little daunting though!

Ed Winslow from Ilkley might be worth contacting for advice as he did a successful mid-winter BGR a couple of years ago. I have his details and could pm you if it'd help

Bob - thanks Mark ran legs 2 and 3 with me on my summer round a few weeks a go and has been a great help.

    Karl - I've pm'd you.

Derby Tup - an introduction to Ed Winslow would be great if you don't mind - Thanks!

A few questions I could really do with some help with if anyone knows:

What is the parachute descent from Blencathra like in winter? Is it still a decent option? Has anyone got a written description of it as I have only ever followed excellent navigators who know it inside out down in the past and I am not certain that I can find it alone.

Scafell (Broad stand) - I plan to go this route but will have it roped - I'm more concerned about the scramble above any tips / advice (other than don't fall of course )?

Steeple - help - very worried about this does it get bad?

The run back to Keswick - Mark had real trouble with black ice here and it is likely to be dark when I get there and probably frozen - I understand there are tracks that run parrallel to the road but have never run them - can anyone tell me more?

Any other bits I particularly need to check on and take care with?

Thanks to everyone for their help!
