Need recommendations please!

I think it is well worth paying a bit more to have the quickest possible lock onto satellites. This is not only to avoid frustration when starting out, but also because as you run and change direction, the watch has to let go of some satellites and lock onto others. Every time this happens you lose accuracy. I tried using a 305 while running around on Woodhouse Moor (my basic training run) and it kept losing the signal altogether, even when I was well away from trees. (I was able to get a complete refund from Amazon on the grounds that it did not do what it was advertised to do.) I also agree with Nikalas about buttons being better than bezel. I just wonder if even the 110 would cope with paths through woods, which are an important part of my long runs. I'd love to know how far I'm running, but would I?

I'm surprised by that as I had no issues with tree cover when I had a 305.

Cheapest place for Garmins these days seems to be www.handtec.co.uk 205 is £93.88.

Thanks. But does this mean it shows my current pace from moment to moment or just my average pace so far for the lap I'm running? When I had the 305, it showed current pace from moment to moment, but wildly inaccurately, so that when I speeded up it showed me as slowing down etc. It would be interesting to know my pace AFTER the workout, but much more useful to know it DURING each effort.

From what I remember... the test was a few months ago, it showed both. As a general rule I don't tend to use current pace/speed on any GPS as it tends to jump up and down so much but does seem to even out if you use average.

your nearest decathlon is Sheffield or Merryhill near Dudley. If you have not been to a store well worth a visit for cheap quality kit. After sales has been good too, I have returned stuff a year later without receipt and they have accepted it without question.

I'm not sure that the map and thread idea is so far from the ideal once you get a bit of practice in but....

You could use a Memory Map equivalent to do what you want for a fraction of the Garmin costs as well as being able to plan new routes, print route cards, maps etc. Any Timex Ironman type watch has at least 50 intervals these days so combine the 2 and you have a satellite/weather/tree immune system that does all sorts of other useful stuff as well. Not so 'flash' I admit but functional with no weight penalty and no running around looking like you have an ASBO 'tag' fitted.

Failing that, there must be an app for an iphone
