Thanks Uncle Bulgaria (great name by the way :thumbup.

I can read a map and compass pretty well and I use Memory Map too.

Just makes life easier sometimes to track what you are doing and what you have done at different points en route.

The way things are looking though it's a lot of money for what appears to be very inaccurate devices

May be I'll save my money for other types of kit.

Take a look at this thread...

Of particular interest is that the forum team use Columbus data loggers, and I assume it to be this...

Apologies, I had no intention to cast doubt on your map reading skills
As MM plots slope, elavation, distance etc and your watch split times will be 'pressed' as you reach your waypoints etc you would have a very accurate measure of speed over distance against terrain and if you had experienced a particularly good or bad leg the 'flyby' facility might show why.

Glad you like the name, it took ages to dress up in all that tweed!

Must be a real bugger feeling compelled to stop and pick up rubbish in the middle of a race

...but added bonus that all those girlies want to come and give you a cuddle

True, it is a burden, but a worthy cause.......you can never cuddle enough.

Not a review I know but 'learning by doing' is often the best way so a 30 day free trial will allow you to make up your own mind.
There have been lots of threads on the Forum about printing your own routes etc and I admit I do like MM; not least because the Fly Through feature can be put on to our living room TV and it is as good as a route recce.

My recommendation too . Nothing to do with being a ludite or anything - I just can't see what advantage a gps devices gives other than being a snazzy toy.
