    Midweek Training Sessions

Would be really interested to know how more experienced fell runners manage their midweek training sesions.

With work commitments (deputy headteacher) and family commitments (seven month old daughter) I am finding it increasing hard to get any training done at any time other than weekends.

I would love to join a club, and ran with Bingley a few years ago, who I found a fantastic bunch of people, but I found it extremely difficult to attend more than one training session a month.
Do any of you manage to stay members of clubs without really training mid-week and just meeting up at races, for example?

I have been fell runing for 5 years, but only manage half a dozen races a year tops, due to a lack of fitness, but I want to give it a really good go next year and join a club if possible, so any advice would be gratefully received!

    Cheers!!

    Neil

Deputy head teacher? Who are you trying to kid? You have loads of time to train. You finish at 3.30pm and you have shedloads of holidays.

And those Fridays off. I've forgot what teachers call them.

    Well.....er....thanks for your replies lads.

Don't suppose anyone's got any actual advice rather than a hilarious critique of my chosen profession!!!
(And I'd not heard any of those 'jokes' before either!)

Yeah quality posts those aren't they...I thought the first one sounded like somone who had got out of the bed the wrong side!
Anyhow, I am new to fellrunning and my club is predominantly a road running club so we don't 'group' fell train. I come from a road running background and use books like The Lore of Running and my 'Bible' Alberto Salazars guide to Road Racing to keep me on the straight and narrow training wise. Moving over to fell running there are a cople of books I was recommended Off Road Running by Sarah Rowell and An introduction to trail and fell running by Keving Shevels, the info in these books is really useful. The first book is isbn: 1861265239 and the second is 1905444403 (I got this from Holdsworths in Ambleside). The info in these books helps me put a plan together that suits my event needs, both short and longterm and I train 3 times a week as am prone to overuse injuries so it's quality over quantity for me. Hope this helps.

    You're not funny.

Haven't you got some spellings to organise or something.

Have you tried getting a few local friends together to organise your own group sessions, meet once/twice a week.

Could you run some of the way to/from work? Not ideal, but it might be a way to squeeze in some mid week runs.
