Well at least it can provide 1500ft + of climb so might be worth considering :P

I think you are confusing fell running and mountain running...

Mountain running is normally held on well surfaced tracks up hills not mountains. It's just what the sport is. the name may be misleading but it won't change now.

The Woodbank Park venue caused some raised eyebrows as there's only around 15m difference between top and bottom (or so I was told) - I'm not really confusing anything as far as I'm aware.

Fell Running - Rivington - Ennerdale - Bunny Runs - Tour of Pendle - is there really that rigid a defintion?

A public Park is not the problem really - there are plenty of options to stage a race from a Public Park, but perhaps no park where the race could be held entirely within the confines of the park.

Yes we are looking at Whitton Park as the best option for the world trials (thanks to Whitton Park here) - this is on what we know of the specific course next year

While I agree that there is clear difference between mountain and fell running, like that betweeen xc and mountain it is blurred at the edges - next year being a real case in point

Having said that mountian running events at an international level are not always on well surfaced tracks (cf last years worlds), they are often held on large hills or mountains, but out of necessity need some sort of shelter at the top and bottom

for the record, Woodbank Park is about 35m top to bottom - that's over 100ft!

probably too late for suggestions, but, from the requirements, it sounds like Lyme Park would be absolutely ideal...
