    Commwealth mtn running champs

According to BBC sport website ....

'Great Britain is to stage the first Commonwealth ultra-distance and mountain running championships in 2009.
The event is the first step towards the sport's push to be included on the athletics programme at the Commonwealth Games and the World Championships.
The four-event competition in Keswick will comprise a 100km road race, a 24-hour race and two mountain races.'

Could mean first real Commonwealth Mountain running champion is crowned in Nigeria or Scotland in 2014.

below is the press release from the WMRA on the subject

    18.05.07
NEW COMMONWEALTH CHAMPIONSHIP EVENT FOR ULTRADISTANCE AND MOUNTAIN RUNNING TO BE HELD IN ENGLAND IN 2009.
The International Association of Ultra Runners (IAU) and the World Mountain Running Association (WMRA) are pleased to announce that their
proposal to stage a joint Commonwealth Championships for ultra distance and mountain running has been accepted by the Commonwealth Games
    Federation.
The championships will take place in scenic Keswick, Cumbria (Lake District), UK, in 2009. The time of year has still to be decided and will fit in with
other major event dates in the town.
The two ultra distance events will be a 100k road race probably involving scenic laps around Derwentwater and a 24-hour event held in the centre of
    Keswick.
The Commonwealth Championship Weekend will utilise the extensive facilities in the town centre.
An uphill only mountain race and an up/down race mountain race will be staged on the surrounding mountains providing both fascinating competition
    and scenic spectator opportunities.
The four events are will be open to all 71 Nations and Territories of the Commonwealth for both men and women, selected by their national federations
and as such continue to broaden the horizons of Commonwealth Sport.

I expect they will get a bit bored running around the center of Keswick for 24 hours.

    It's even on the bbc...

Can'r work out where you could run in the centre of Keswick for 24 hrs. Whats the betting the mtn races are the uphill being up Skiddaw and the up and down up skiddaw and back down again?

You are probably right about the uphill race. That has been used for trial races in the past. The up and down is more likely to be based on the course for the Masters event a couple of years ago
