Is the route well marked or is it worth a reccy?
nah, pretty straightforward and mostly flagged
You can see a very good description of the route by Lemming on page 1 of this thread - but it's still well worth a recce. It looks pretty easy on paper but be warned - it's a tough little rascal and the handicap formula ensurs you pull your tripe out!
How does the handicap thingy work I haven't come across it before??
For CFR members its based on how well (or not) you have been running as guestimated by the organiser. In the finest traditions of fellrunning its not taken too seriously and you could always try and blag a good handicap for yourself on the day if you aren't known to Harry. Interval starts are based on the handicap you get, if it works it makes for an exciting finish and lots of fast runners passing you in the final stages to try and keep up with which makes a nice change from only seeing them at the start.
It's hard to pull a fast one on Harry - he knows all the relevant times for races and works it from that. Your only hope is to swear you haven't raced before - but we will know if you have!
I think he must mistake me for Ricky Lightfoot with the handicaps he gives me!
Cumbrian weather plentiful today for this handicap race.
Rain made photography a bit of a challenge but here they are

Great photos Bestathlete - especially in all that rain.
Looking forward to my first lakes race of the year, anyone else having a potter round this one?
Hopefully will be pottering round, always enjoy a handicap race for a bit of a change.
Will potter to the prize giving too- if I remember rightly there are at least as many prizes as there are runners.
Full range of speeds on display too!
