Now that's not helping my confidence at all

That's the trouble with these longer events - when you're slow like me it's so easy to get left behind, then there's nobody to follow. So then it's slow down and concentrate hard on the nav. Which puts you further behind.......

Wouldn't be the same without the sleepless nights though

tinyman, if you're seriously worried about getting lost try and recce the bit from Tod golf club to Heptonstall. That's where you're most likely to go off course

Thanks DT. I'm doing a LDWA event later this month to check out what kind of pace I'm back to then I'll be looking at the Hobble route to get a plan together.

I take it that would be your recommendation - if I've got one recce available focus on the section you describe?

I think dropping down from the golf club to cross the main road before cimbing back up to Mankinholes YHA cp then again dropping down into Hebden Bridge before climbing back up to Heptonstall (is there a theme developing here?) are the potentially tricky bits. Start is easy as you're surrounded by walkers and runners, and finishing say 6ml or so is straightforward

thanks for reminding me of the horror derby tup
the rest is fine..but the golf course and the drop into the next town caught us out well and truly. if we weren't so muddy we'd have got a taxi back to the finish

Thanks DT - that gives me a sense of what I'll need to focus on before the day
It's a confidence thing I reckon - if this was a Lakes event I wouldn't be sweating it! i obviously need to get out (of my parish) more

Navigation isn't a big problem I think at the Hobble. Walking downstairs the next day can be There's a good amount of decent running and a fair bit of it is on relatively firm ground. Great event and a real favourite of mine. I'd never done more than 13miles and had only been running a few months when I first did it
