    Box Hill Fell Race

Entries have opened for this race(Jan 19/2008) and are limited to 180. I've sent mine off. Anyone done this before and if so what's it like?

    Cheers

    Shhhhh!

    Don't tell everyone.

An excellent race, plenty of ups and downs (South). Not sure if it's a true fell race as the course is pretty much marked all the way, highly enjoyable early season run though.

This is an excellent race - never mind any southern qualifiers. It's hilly, fantastic views, well organised, prizes from the National Trust shop, and lots more things. Say hello to all the SLOWites for me!

I won a bar of soap there once in the vets category - I remember it well as I don't win a lot . I used to train on the course quite a lot years ago, nearest hill I could find to where I worked.
Don't roll with a pig in poo. You get covered in poo and the pig likes it.

have you done it before FFTF? was wondering where it goes.

I've done plenty of runs starting / finishing at Box Hill but usually along the North Downs Way.

Re: Box Hill race 23 Jan

ZRH, the race starts just above the bikers' cafe, heads up to the top of Box Hill and down the other side, then climbs halfway up , drops again, climbs to the top to Box Hill village, heads out northwards towards Headley Heath (small intermediate climb), drops to Lodgebottom Road (with another small intermediate climb), gradually climbs White Hill but not to the trig point, drops back to Headley Road, climbs up the spur opposite all the way to another part of the summit plateau, along a bit, back down a gully across the zig-zag road, a final sharp pull back onto the main north ridge and the all the way down to the finish where the start was.

Got that? So that's 5 long slow climbs, 3 short sharp climbs, 1 steep descent on grass, another on grass / brambles, another on chalk/steps, 1 gradual but steepening descent on grass, a gradual descent in the stony gully, and the final long fast gradual descent on grass, The other descents you don't really notice.

On the map it looks something like this. Not quite accurate but you get the idea.

    See you there!
