    Blisters on arches ????

Can anyone shed any light on this....
My son and I do quite a bit of running off road, recently his girlfriend has also taken up running, we have encouraged her gently, slowly building up her fitness and miles, she originally bought a pair of Adidas Kanadias as they seem to get reasonable reviews and were not to expensive if she decided running was not for her.
She then bought some Salomon Speedcoss 2, mainly because we both use them and find them comfortable.
Both types of shoes gave her blisters, actually in the arches of her feet towards the front of the arch.
As the nights drew in she wanted to run on the road as time was limited for off roading, I suggested that if she was buying road shoes she should go to a shop that did gait analysis and get properley fitted.
She did, she overpronates apparently and was advised to go for a pair of Asics 2150 to suit her.
Anyway she has ran in them and ..... you guessed it, same blisters.
Has anyone had similair problems or any idea what is occuring.

with out seeing her feet and shoes it will be impossible to tell but looking back on some footbeds I've seen it may be if she pronating and flatfooted that the arch support is rubbing, on the arch support is too far forward. it's one answer

It could be all manner of things
Her feet may just be very soft. If she has just recently taken up running it can take a while for your feet to harden up. Its a dilema im afraid that shoes can feel okay in a shop but until you have done a few miles in them you really dont know. Then once you get sorted they alter the shoe.
    Thats running im afraid.
But you should get her feet look at by someone at a running shop. Your local shop will advise.

    Re: Blisters on arches ????

I had a similar problem with blisters, when I got some new orthotics (inserts) as I over pronate too - badly.

It was as IanDarkPeak suggests in my case - the arch support was rubbing, as I think it was a bit far forward. Anyway, I went back to my old ones while I had the new ones adjusted and after 2 years of being fine I found they suddenly caused blisters too - I had to let the redness from the blisters go completely before running again - even with the support in the right place they just damaged the weaker soft skin which had been caused by the original problem, so maybe she has a similar problem and a week or two to let the skin toughen up again will work if she hasn't already tried that? It worked for me anyway.

I have also found some "specialist" socks rub so it might be worth looking at what socks she wears? I find just normal cheap socks the most comfortable!

    Re: Blisters on arches ????

Many thanks for the replies, it seems logical that not all arch supports will fit all arches - and it may well be the case that the support is too far forward,
concensus of opinion seems to be take her to a specialist sho fitting service, which is pretty much what I thought but thought it was well trying a post on here as there is a wealth of experience and someone may well have had similar problems.
Thanks again to those who replied.

i - this is the first time i've seen someone suffering with blisters i nthe same place I get them and agree with what others have said that it's the arch support causing the problems as I have no issues at all in fell shoes, but with trail or road shoes on I start to get hot spots after 3-5k.

Taping my arches does seem to help a little but I think my next step is to try something like Newtons or Nike Free.........could be an expensive experiment but nothing else has worked so far.

Vaseline works wonders in my experience. Once you've got the blisters you've got to wait until they heal. I always put Vaseline everywhere on my feet that I've had blisters in the past & it really makes a big difference - far less likely to get blisters. It's worked on my arches, toes, back of heels & side of heels. And other places too of course. And no, I'm not on the Vaseline payroll... I'd imagine anyone running ultras would say much the same.
