    Garburn Trail

Anyone else on the forum doing this? We were told how great it was last year and it will be our first fell race. Me and two girl friends are coming up from London and we have all entered the Garburn Challenge.
There's a lot of girls on the start list which is encouraging.
Any advice for us "southerners" would be appreciated.

    I'm doing it run Rabbit.

From what i can gather there are 3 climbs.

The first, from the start in Staveley to Reston Scar (around 450'), then lots of flat and good running to Kentmere Hall.

Then the "main climb" to Garburn Pass, a graded 800' climb.

Then a long, gradual descent towards Windermere.

Then a short climb to Orrest Head (250').

Then a nice gradual descent through woods to the finish.

    You'll really enjoy it.

You will really enjoy it, a good run with plenty of razzamataz at the finish, steel bands and stuff !
Be careful on the Garburn descent,I tried to fly down it rather than run it
Still got the scars and a photo of me finishing dripping in blood

Would you say it was 'all' runnable Leeds Rhino or are there sections where it's so steep that you'd need to be a fell running shepherd from Wasdale to carry on running?

Do you think there will be others walking the climb to Garburn Pass?

I'll be there, another girlie :-)

Went up the Garburn Pass when I went for a run round Kentmere at Christmas. I wasn't able to run it all :-(

But hey ho. Will be a super day out
I think I'll walk this bit....

    Re: Garburn Trail

I was one of the Garburn climb walkers last year, but it was a very sociable section chatting to other competitors and exchanging a few words with walkers we passed. Worst part of the race for me was the climb out of Staveley, not that long but unpleasantly steep when you've not warmed up!
