    I've cricked my neck

I woke up the other day with a cricked neck - one of those where you can turn your head one way but not the other. Very annoying!

Other than resting up for a few days, is there any way to sort this out - heat, massage etc?

Would going out for a run be such a bad idea?

if you've just done it i'd let it settle down a bit before going in on the stretching massage route - if you've had it a while try warming it in the shower (or with one of those microwave wheat bags) a doing some gentle stretches.

if you warm it a bit before you go and keep it warm - then i reckon runing be ok. after sloughing at a computer every working day - sometimes running is the best posture i have - and you warm up the muscles.

PS if i tweak my neck or back pretty badly, in the first few days it can be good to take ibuprofen/ use ibuprofen gel - to stop other muscles around the injured one spasming up in reaction to the injury (i try not to use it too long/ after a settling down period - cos its not the best for your stomach).

I do this periodically. The last time it was quite severe, but I was training for FTOP & so doped myself up with Ibuprofen & still trained. This actually seemed to ease & loosen the injury somewhat. Obviously, everybody's different & so it may not work for you !

    Re: I've cricked my neck

Well I took the advice posted here - rested a couple of days, kept it warm and got the mrs to give it a rub.
Still painful yesterday but went out for a run - seems to have sorted it. Although I couldn't look left as I was trotting round.
    Thanks for the tips!
