Life only makes sense backwards!
Life only makes sense backwards!
I already started a thread asking for advice on training in later life HERE, in 2010. I didn't want to duplicate that thread. I have learned a lot from this one. It seems to me that principles of training have to be roughly the same for all (except for those who are not yet fully grown), but we all have to compromise and adapt them to allow for our particular weaknesses and difficulties, whether age, fragility, ill-health, demanding work schedules, children.
I said at the beginning that I wanted to run faster - but I think I made it clear that I did not hope to run faster than anyone else, or than myself in my youth - just faster than I find myself running right now, which is very slowly. I may or may not achieve this goal, but I don't think it is an unreasonable one. I do think I have a better idea how to train now than I had when I started this thread, thanks to reading posts and also various books. My aim is now rather more long-term - to be still running in a year's time, and preferably by then to be running a little bit faster and further than I can now. Thanks to everyone for sharing your experience.
